Yards measure volume, not weight, and the two come apart fast. A 40 yard bin holds roughly fifteen pickup loads of light renovation debris, and the same bin filled with brick would be over its allowance long before it looked full.
That is why heavy material has its own rule here. Concrete, soil, brick and asphalt go in the 6, 10 or 14 yard bins, never the large ones, and they go in on their own with nothing mixed through them. The bigger sizes are for bulk: shingles, framing, furniture, drywall, fit-out strip.
If you are between two sizes, take the larger one. A second bin costs a full delivery, and an overfilled bin cannot legally leave the driveway. What size bin walks through it by project, and weight limits has the allowance for each size.

A 10 yard is 10 by 7 by 4 feet, a 14 yard 12 by 8 by 4, a 20 yard 20 by 8 by 4 and a 40 yard 20 by 8 by 8. Every size page lists its own dimensions, capacity and tonnage.
Almost always up to a 20 yard. A 40 yard needs about 25 feet of clear length so the rear door can swing open, plus room for the truck to back in straight.
About two pickup loads of volume and half a tonne of allowance. If you are doing a roof or a full kitchen, take the 20. For a garage or a single bathroom, the 15 is enough.

We can swap it for a larger one, but that is a second delivery and it is charged as one. Sizing up at the start is nearly always the cheaper move.
Level with the top rail, nothing above it. A heaped bin cannot be tarped, and a load that cannot be tarped cannot legally be driven.
