When junk removal beats a bin, and when it does not
A bin wins on volume. If there is a lot to clear and people to load it, a bin on the driveway is cheaper per cubic yard than any crewed service, and you can work at your own pace over a week.
A crew wins on effort and access. A few heavy items, a third-floor walk-up, an elderly owner or a tenant who has left a unit unusable are all jobs where the loading is the problem and the volume is not.
The awkward middle is a small volume of heavy things: a hot tub, a piano, a shed full of concrete pavers. Those are usually crewed, because a bin would be over its tonnage while still looking empty. Bin sizes covers the alternative and home cleanout the bin version of the same job.

A crew cannot take the prohibited items either
The refusals are set by the disposal facility, not by whether a crew or a customer loaded it. Paint, solvents, fuels, oils, tires, batteries, propane tanks, hot water tanks and asbestos are refused in a truck exactly as they are in a bin.
Electronics are the one difference worth knowing. A crew can often take them to an e-waste depot as part of the job, which a bin cannot, so an office clear or a house full of old televisions is sometimes easier crewed.
