Driveway Care

Windsor dumpster driveway protection, boards on every drop

What a loaded bin does to asphalt, concrete and interlock, and the precautions that stop it, including the one that matters most in July.

  • Boards every time
  • Asphalt asked about first
  • Nothing dragged

What Marks A Drive

A loaded bin concentrates weight onto four small points

A bin does not sit flat. It rests on rails and rollers, so several tonnes ends up on a few narrow strips of surface. On cold concrete that is usually fine. On warm asphalt it is not, because asphalt softens with temperature and takes an impression.

That is why the season matters more than the driveway. The same bin on the same drive in October and in July behaves differently, and July is when marks happen. We ask about surface and timing before booking rather than after.

Boards go under the rails on every driveway placement, which spreads the load across a much larger area. Nothing is ever dragged on or off, because dragging is what causes scoring rather than compression. Permits and placement covers the surface and slope questions. The full list is on bin rental guides. Bin rental prices covers the rest.

Protecting It

Four precautions on a driveway bin placement

  1. Tell us the surface

Asphalt, concrete, interlock or gravel. Each behaves differently under load.

  2. Boards under the rails

Laid before the bin comes off, spreading the load rather than concentrating it.

  3. Placed, not dragged

Rolled off and set down. Dragging is what scores a surface.

  4. Watch the heat

On a hot day on fresh asphalt, we will suggest a different spot rather than risk it.

Interlock And Slopes

The two driveway types that need a conversation first

Interlock and paver drives are laid on a sand bed, and concentrated load can settle individual stones even with boards down. It is usually fine for a small bin and a short rental, and it is worth thinking about for a large one.

Slopes are the other. A bin on a slope wants to move, so it needs chocking, and a steep drive can make it impossible to place safely at all. If the drive is steep, tell us before the truck is scheduled rather than when it is there.

Fresh asphalt within its first season is the case where we will usually recommend somewhere else entirely. None of this is common, but all of it is cheaper as a phone call than as a repair. Delivery and pickup covers access. Bin rental guides goes through it properly.

Straight Answers

Windsor driveway protection questions

With boards down and nothing dragged, it very rarely does. The real risk is warm asphalt in summer, which we ask about before booking.
Yes, on every driveway placement, laid before the bin comes off the truck.
Usually fine for a small bin and a short rental. For a large bin it is worth discussing, because pavers sit on a sand bed that can settle.
A gentle slope, yes, with chocking. A steep one may not be safe, so tell us before the truck is on its way.
Within its first season we will usually suggest another spot. Fresh asphalt marks far more easily than cured asphalt.

New asphalt and they suggested the side pad instead. Would not have thought of it myself.

Boards went down without me asking. Not a mark on a two year old drive.

Asked about interlock before booking. Ended up on the concrete apron instead, which was right.

Careful driver, no damage. The slope needed chocking and took a few minutes longer.
