Windsor dumpster rental fees and how to avoid them
Four charges can be added to a flat price. Each one has a specific trigger, and every one of them is avoidable.
- Four possible fees
- Each avoidable
- Nothing hidden
The Four
Every charge that can be added to a bin rental price
Overage, when the load weighs more than the allowance, at $120 a tonne off the scale ticket. Extension, when the bin stays past its included days, at $10 to $25 a day. Both are predictable and both are quoted before you book.
A trip charge, when the truck arrives and cannot place or collect the bin: a car in the way, a locked gate, or a load heaped above the rail. And a separate disposal charge, when a prohibited item is pulled out at the scale.
That is the whole list. There is no fuel surcharge, no environmental levy and no admin fee attached to a rental here. If a figure on your invoice is not one of those four, ask, because it should not be there. Pricing shows what the flat price covers.
Avoiding Them
Four habits that keep a bin at the quoted price
-
Separate heavy material
Concrete, brick and soil in their own small bin. This prevents most overage.
-
Level with the rail
Nothing above the top edge, so the load can be tarped and driven.
-
Clear the approach
Move the car the night before collection and open any gate.
-
Sort the refusals
Paint, tires, propane and electronics out before you start loading.
The Trip Charge
Why the bin trip charge is the one people argue about
Nothing was collected, so it feels like being billed for nothing. What was actually consumed is a truck, a driver and a slot on the route, and those cost the same whether the bin comes back on the trailer or not.
The triggers are always the same three: a vehicle parked in front of the bin, a gate that is locked with nobody on site, or a load heaped so high it cannot legally be tarped. All three are visible the evening before.
So the fix is a two-minute check the night before collection day. That single habit prevents the fee entirely, and it is why we would rather write this down than collect it. Delivery and pickup covers access and weight limits the fill line. There is more on bin rental guides.

Windsor bin rental fee questions
Four fees listed upfront and I paid none of them. That is how it should work.
No fuel surcharge, no admin fee. The invoice was the quote plus nothing.
They told me to move the car the night before. I would not have thought about it.
Went over on weight and was charged the rate quoted. Annoying but entirely fair and the ticket was attached.
