Mixed Loads
Demolition debris is mixed, and mixed is what sets the rate
A teardown produces timber, drywall, plaster, insulation, roofing, wiring, ducting, fittings and packaging all at once. That mixture is normal, it is handled as general construction waste, and it is priced accordingly.
What changes the rate is masonry. Once brick, block, mortar or a concrete slab is mixed through the load it can no longer be sorted cheaply, so the whole bin is charged as general waste rather than at the far lower inert rate.
On a real teardown that difference is worth planning around: put the masonry in its own small bin and keep the mixed bin clean. Concrete and clean fill covers the separate bin, and heavy debris explains why the two streams never travel together.

Before The Machine
What has to come out before a demolition bin is loaded
Anything pre-1990 raises the asbestos question, and asbestos is refused outright in a roll-off. It needs a licensed abatement contractor and its own disposal route, and it has to be dealt with before demolition starts, not discovered halfway through.
The other pulls are the ones a strip-out always turns up: fluorescent tubes from the ceiling grid, ballasts, paint and solvent left in a basement, and any air conditioning or refrigeration unit still holding refrigerant.
None of those can go in the bin, and finding one at the scale means a separate disposal charge on the invoice. Pull them at the start of the job and the bin stays simple. Prohibited items has the full list, and what we take covers everything a teardown can load.

Windsor demolition debris questions
Four swaps in a week, every one the same day we called. That is the whole job for us.
They told us to keep the block work separate. Saved more than the second bin cost.
Scale tickets on every invoice. Our QS could reconcile it without asking us anything.
Good service. One swap came in the afternoon rather than the morning, but they had said it might.
